A drawing is a photograph
of the shadows in Plato’s cave.
The painter, an alchemist and
a machine- Narrator of the
discarnate- As the wind is
a weaver of waves on the sea
My lifelong romance is with drawing. Like a lover it’s the ever familiar mystery. Deeply known and unknowable, ever-present even in absence. Both freedom and obsession.
Art is a basic and ancient materialistic impulse to manifest the disembodied. What is happening spiritually and physiologically when our own hands become the tools by which ideas materialize? What happens when those manifest ideas become formless again in the mind of the observer?
My goal is to celebrate these questions and the neurocognative process itself through visual language. Each day is a renewed commitment to my training as a seer. In my practice I try to be always mindful of my responsibility to the viewer. It’s the artists sacred duty to offer the catharsis felt when the unsayable is finally said.
